Paper Crafts 2012 Gallery Idol

Hello!!

I'm so exited to be in Paper Crafts 2012 Gallery Idol, Top 20! All the ladies are super talented and i am honored to be included!  Today kicks off the voting for Round 2, only the top 15 are chosen, so make sure you vote for your favorite (me, right!?! hehe) :D  Click here to vote!

The theme this round is You Color My World. First here is my card, then i'll get into the details!

For my card i really wanted to try making fabric flowers. I've seen them everywhere, even watch A How To months ago, but never got around to actually making one. So... since color was the theme and i don;t have much fabric let alone all the colors of the rainbow, i decided to dye some fabric.

I started with a fine small count white linen and cut lots of strips, about an inch or so wide. For my dye's i used the ink refillers from Papertrey Ink. For my 1st attempt i used too much water and my strips came up to light for my liking. So i started again and this time only used about a tablespoon of water (i just eyeballed it).

I used small disposable plastic cups and a wooden dowel to stir and move around the fabric strips. For the darker colors (purple and blue) i ended up adding a little bit of water after they the strips where in

Next i laid them out to dry on some parchment paper. Luckily i had some plastic bin lids that made great drying racks!

Now i'm all about experimenting before i start on the good stuff, so i cut a couple extra strips and tried my hand at making the flower, because if it didn;t work out, i was going to have to come up with another plan for my colored strips!!

But it all worked out wonderfully (or at least i think so! lol). I die cut some small circles and used glossy accents to adhere the fabric to each circle. I started in the middle, putting down glue, twisting and laying, more glue... you get the idea!! :D

Once all the flower's were made i cut some leaves and arrange the flowers and leaves to my liking. Before i glued them down i added a sentiment in the bottom right in brown ink. Last i added rhinestone to each flower.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you will take a look all the Gallery Idols cards and vote for your favorite!!

Thanks!!

Dana

  2. Dying with reinkers is so tricky - worth the result, but definitely a learning experience every time for me :) I never remember to wear gloves, either, so I sport the tie-dye hand look after! Love how these turned out :)
