Altenew - Sewing & Watercolors 2

 Hello!!

Happy Friday!!! I'm popping in today with my second project for Altenew's Sewing Contest. This one is a card and I used one of my watercoloring on evenweave experiments! I used Altenew's Statement Flower  stamp for this card.

For this piece of evenweave, I saturated it with water, then added my Altenew watercolors diluted with water. Starting with evenweave already wet, the colors blended a lot better, though they are on the light side. I did let it dry over night!

The next day I stamped the Statement Flower with black memento ink. Then I picked out a light and dark green floss for the leaves and a light and dark pink floss for the flowers. I used only one thread and did some back stitching to outline the leaves and flowers, then I went in with the darker colors and added my own stitching to add shadow/darker areas.

Next, I iron on some interfacing to help stiffen the fabric and helps to hold the back floss in place. It also limits the fraying of the edges, because I went and cut out the flower. I left a border around the flowers. Since it was going on a card I didn't use a fraying glue that would really stop any unraveling!

For my card I pulled out a Hero Arts stencil and a black card base. I used some watermark ink to ink up the stencil, but kept it loose with uneven edges. Then I used some green Perfect Pearls and added some color the watermark ink. I used a paint brush to clean any extra off.

Next, I adhered the stitched flower to the card base. Then I white heat embossed the Hello sentiment, trimmed it and then added it to the card with foam tape.

While the stitching is a bit more work then the typical card, the recipient can easily frame it to enjoy year round!! Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Altenew - Sewing & Watercolors

 Hello!

I'm stopping by with a project  - not a card - Shocking, I know!!! Hehe! Altenew has a sewing contest and I knew I had to try a few things! You have find all the info here, if you want to play along, but hurry it ends the 31st!!

So for a while I've been wanting to try watercoloring on my cross stitch fabric. I've been cross stitching longer then I've been card making!! I had some 28 ct white evenweave that I cut up to experiment with.

I found that using a lot water with the watercolors was the best way to add color to the fabric. First I would add the watercolor to the fabric, then add water and work it into the fabric. To make the color darker and brighter I would add more watercolor (with lots of water). If the watercolor is more intense (more pigment, then water) then it was splotching on the fabric and didn't move through the fabric . But lots of water with a little pigment, would spread much easier.

After doing my watercoloring I let the fabric dry over night. The next day I came back and used the butterfly from the Ori Kami stamp set. I just used regular memento black ink, stamping lightly.

Then I started stitching! I used three threads of black floss and did long stitches over the stamped butterflies. A little tip for you, there is no need to use knots to start or finish your stitching. Just leave a tail when you start and as you stitch, your stitches will hold the tail. When you are done stitching, just thread your needle through your stitching on the back, then trim the extra.

To finish the stitching I used iron interfacing on the back, this helps strengthen your fabric,  holds your wrong side stitching in place and and lessons the chance for edge fraying. From the craft store I found a simple black frame for my stitching!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll be back in a day or two with my second project for the contest!!

PinkFresh Studio - August Challenge

 Hello and Happy Friday!!

I'm popping in with a card I made for PinkFresh Studio's August Challenge! I was in the mood to create, but needed a jumping point, so I searched out a challenge and came across PinkFresh's. Below is the challenge prompt, Floral and or Color Challenge. I went with both in my card!

Dana Warren - Kraft Paper Stamps - PinkFresh Studio, Catherine Pooler Inks

I tried to match the colors the best I could, using them between the background and the floral image. Is started with PinkFresh Studio's Color Block Diagonal Stripes die and cut some white card stock.

Then I used some Catherine Pooler inks to color the stripes. I did leave some white and others I used Wow Embossing gold powder to heat emboss a couple strips. I adhered the stripes to a gray card stock, but I skipped every other strip.

Graciellie Designs - Simplicity

 Hello!

I'm stopping by with a second card featuring Graciellie Designs new digital stamp set Simplicity! Gorgeous sprig of greenery with fabulous sentiments!!

Dana Warren - Kraft Paper Stamps - Graciellie Designs - Wow Embossing Powder

I started by pasting a few of the image in Word and resizing them. Then I printed and fussy cut each one. I ended up only using two of the four I printed, I'll use the others on future cards.

Then I decieded to leave the images uncolored so they would better stand out with a sparkley background. I used Funky Fossil Designs - Nouveau Tile stencil with Wow Embossing Powder glitter Celebration.

To create my sparkly background I used the glitter with transparent paste. I of course made too much so after using the Nouveau Tile stencil I pulled out other panels and stencils and used up the rest of my glitter paste.

While the background was drying I pulled out an older Hello die and cut it with black card stock four times. Then I adhered each together to layer it up. This is what you do when you thought you printed a sentiment, only to find you didn't!

I adhered my glittered panel to a black card base. Then I added the images with liquid adhesive. I trimmed off the over hang and then added them on top, creating two layers of the images. Last I adhered my Hello sentiment.

Catherine Pooler - Fly Daddy

Hello!!

I'm stopping by with a card I made for fun! Playing with some birthday goodies I received last month! First the background die is from Hero Arts and pairs great with Catherine Poolers Fly Daddy stamp set!
Dana Warren - Kraft Paper Stamps - Catherine Pooler
I can always use more masculine stamp sets, so when I saw this at Catherine Poolers online store, I knew it would make some great cards!!

To start I pulled out some water color card stock and trimmed it to fit an A2 card. Then I used a couple different blue Distress Inks and my Taylored Expressions ink applicator, blending the colors together. Then I used clean water to add some splatters. Some I let sit before dabbing away the excess water, others I dabbed right away! This varies the lightness of my splatters!

While the background was drying I stamped the fishing pole and the fish. I used two CP ink colors on the fish, first the lightest color then added the darker color along then edge, then stamped!! I fussy cut both out. I also stamped the You're a Reel Catch on white card stock and then fussy cut it out.

Next, I used the Hero Arts Fish Background to die cut the background. I saved the fishes to use later, figured they would make some nice confetti in a shaker card! Then I adhered the background to a white card base.

Last, I added the fishing pole, fish and sentiment to the card with foam tape. I decided not to add anything else, since it is a card for a guy and they wouldn't really appreciate anything that sparkles!! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Graciellie Designs - Relax

Hello!!

Happy Tuesday! Today I am sharing a card I made with new Graciellie Designs Relax digital stamp. I was in the watercolor mood and this stamp set is perfect for it!! With a quick google search you can see how colorful it is!!

Dana Warren - Kraft Paper Stamps - Graciellie Designs - Altenew Watercolor

I opened the flower image in a word document and enlarged it. Then I added the Relax Unplug. Unwind. Breathe. sentiment below the flower and printed it out on watercolor card stock.

Next, I used my Altenew watercolors to color the flower. After it was dry, I added a little bit of grey watercolor around the flower to give it some shadows. When that was dry I used watercolors to add splatters of orange and black.

I used a stitched rectangle to cut out the colored image and adhered it to a black card base. To add a little sparkle I added some purple and orange rhinestones.
