Hey there!!
A few days ago i had a snow day, so i spent most of the day in the craft room!! I just played with some challenges for fun (no DT work)! I made a card for Cure For The Monday Blues Challenge #3.
At first i was not going to play with the Monday Blues challenge as it has a black and white almost ikat looking pattern to it. I don;t like the ikat or the tribal look, so i don;t have any stamps that would go with this challenge. However i thought i would play with a never used stamp set and before you know it i was playing with different elements and coming up with some patterns and this is what i came up with!
With a ruler i added grid lines and made my pattern. I used some flower centers and what i think is the center to some leaves. I kept to the black and white and used black ink to stamp my pattern. I matted the panel on black card stock and added it to my card base.
I then stamped the Happy Birthday on a strip of white card stock. I then cut the line like stamp i used in half so i would only stamp one of the line thingy's. I masked off the sentiment and stamped using several different colors. Next i added a little grey marker to the sentiment.
I added some black and red strips and then adhered the sentiment. I like how it turned out, kind of ikatish!!
Thanks for stopping by!!
Dana

Whew *passing hand over forehead* how refreshing to know I'm not alone in finding ikat/tribal like images a challenge to work with! That's why I turned away from the challenge, too - even though the 'concept' of playing along intrigues me, and your super cool card has nudged me even closer. Your design is clever, especially the colourful panel. Very cool, very trendy, very 'in keeping' with the photo inspiration. Hmmm...maybe I need to rummage through my stash (teensy in comparison to most) and see what appears! Have a fabulous Saturday!!

What a cool way to create that pattern! Love how you used unexpected stamps!
ReplyDeleteI believe, Dana, that you have a fantastic mind for design! I can think of several companies that should be hiring you to design their paper products!! This isn't easy; well done!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend! Hugs, Darnell
Dana I am seriously impressed with your created-from-scratch patterned background! I seriously applaud your dedication and determination to create this! Your stacked flags and sentiment are awesome. It means so much to me that you keep playing each week. <3 Thanks so much for playing to Cure The Monday Blues!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of that look either, so I'm especially impressed that you managed to sort-of-recreate it BUT better :) Love the pop of colours behind the sentiment :)
